The Feather of the Angel
Victor Hugo, a very famous French author, also wrote a little known work. He wrote it at the end of his life and this work follows the one entitled "The Legend of the Centuries". Someone found it in one of his drawers after his death. This poetic work, entitled "the End of Satan" tells the history of the fall of Lucifer.
Lucifer was an archangel known to be radiant, luminous, extraordinary, if not perfect, and so beautiful, that one day he started believing that he was the equal one of God. For its fault, Lucifer was banished and thrown in the depths of the abyss from where it howls since, under the name of Satan. But at the time of its fall, a feather was detached from its marvelous wings. This feather was transformed into angel, the Angel of Freedom, his daughter, who, although born from Lucifer, regained her place near God.
Satan in its hell mourns since centuries and its complaints are as many calamities which wound the men and damage it more. Satan will try in vain and for centuries to be avenged for God by deploying his horrors. But one day, on the top of his sufferings, he will request God to hear it. God will remain quiet and Satan will sigh by concluding this: "even Love hates me".
Angel of Freedom, its daughter, will have pity of Satan and especially human beings, these creatures of God, on whom Satan is baited without mercy. Angel of Freedom will ask to God the permission to visit Satan in its abyss in order to require to release humans of the terrible yoke that it makes them undergo. God will yield to his request. The Angel of Freedom will go to the doors of Hells which are on a pole of Earth, where the winter is so icy that it is mortal.
By penetrating the abysses, Angel of Freedom will try to comfort and convince Satan to let her accomplish her own mission, that is to release humans of the fear and the horror in which the hatred of Satan plunged them. She will say to him: "I come with tears to wash you. I kneel the light in front of your horror ".
Then Angel if Freedom will require of Satan this:
"Agree! Oh! Me who comes from you, allow that I go
At these alive, in order to complete the battle
Between their ignorance, alas, and their reason,
To put a redness crowned at the horizon
So that the dreadful one passed in darkness rolls,
So that the ground trembles and that the prison collapses
So that the eruption is done, and so that finally
The man sees, above the pains, the hunger,
War, kings, gods and insanity
The volcano of joy swelling its immense lava !
And Satan suffering painfully in front of this request:
"His face was like the field of a dark combat
The good, the evil fought on its face between them "
Then he yields :
"with difficulty than two rocks, its lips
Deviated, a stormy breath raised
Its terrible side, and the angel heard this word : Go !"
The symbolic essence of this poetry is powerful. The lively words of Victor Hugo increases its resonance. In fact, it puts in scene the Archetype of Freedom which dominates the Era of Aquarius.
